Regional District seeks members for public and technical advisory committee
Pemberton, BC – The Squamish-Lillooet Regional District (SLRD) is undertaking a multi-year process of reviewing and updating its Solid Waste Resource Management Plan and is looking to the public to help shape that process and inform a new plan for the region.
The Environmental Management Act requires that all regional districts develop plans for the management of solid waste and recyclable materials. The SLRD’s current Solid Waste and Resource Management Plan was adopted by the SLRD Board in March 2016 and approved by the Ministry of Environment in 2019. Regional districts are required to review and update these plans every 10 years.
The SLRD anticipates this project will span three years, from 2026 to 2028. Broad community engagement will begin in 2027, with a draft plan anticipated in 2028.
Forming the Public and Technical Advisory Committee (PTAC) is an integral first step in driving this important process.
“Shaping the future of how we reduce waste and protect our environment starts with the voices of the people who live in the region,” said SLRD Board Chair, Jen Ford.
“We are calling on the community to help inform this important work,” she said. “By joining the technical advisory committee, you help ensure that our new Solid Waste and Resource Management Plan reflects the priorities, values and lived experiences in the communities we serve. Your perspective matters, and it can make a lasting difference.”
The SLRD is seeking residents, business members and representatives from community organizations with an interest or expertise in solid waste and related matters to serve on the Solid Waste and Resource Management Plan Update Public and Technical Advisory Committee.
Applications are due by March 30, 2026.
Applicants should:
- Reside or conduct business within the region.
- Demonstrate community/ committee involvement and the ability to work collaboratively with others.
- Be interested in and/ or demonstrate a commitment to waste reduction, sustainability and climate action.
- Be experienced with waste, waste diversion and recycling.
- Be available to commit to 4-6 three-hour sessions over the duration of the project, which is anticipated to take place over three years (2026 – 2028).
