Where were you during Canada’s census?
Canada’s 2016 census was held in May this year.
Statistics Canada sent census letters and packages to all Canadian households – including those in recreational communities – providing residents the information they needed to complete the census online or on paper.
Be Counted. For Your Community's Sake.
Census information is important for all communities and is vital for planning services such as schools, daycare, family services, housing, police services, fire protection, roads, public transportation and skills training for employment.
Population estimates obtained from the census are used to allocate transfer payments from the federal government to the provinces and territories, and from the provinces to municipalities.
Multiple properties means multiple forms!
If you have received a census package at both your primary residence and your secondary residence, you need to complete a questionnaire for your primary residence as well as a partial questionnaire for your secondary residence.
Using the census material you received at your primary residence, complete a census questionnaire online or on paper for your primary residence, where you reside most of the time.
Using the census material you received at your secondary residence, complete only the required sections of a census questionnaire online or on paper for your secondary residence.
Census interviewers are now following up in cottage areas and resort communities to ensure that everyone has completed a census questionnaire for every dwelling.
It is important that information for both your primary and secondary residences is obtained.
Need help?
Enumerators are working at the moment in Area A to assist people to complete their census forms, making contact with households from whom a completed form has not yet been received. It is also possible to contact the Census helpline on 1-855-700-2016 to complete the census over the phone or to request language assistance.
The next few weeks are critical to reaching all those who have not yet completed their census.
