PUBLIC NOTICE is hereby given in accordance with the Local Government Act and the Community Charter that the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District ("SLRD") is proposing the adoption of Squamish-Lillooet Regional District Administrative Building Renovation Loan Authorization Bylaw No. 1519-2017 ("Bylaw"). The Bylaw relates to the SLRD's General Administration service, which includes the 4 electoral areas (Areas A, B, C & D) and the 4 member municipalities (District of Lillooet, Village of Pemberton, Resort Municipality of Whistler & District of Squamish) as participants ("Service Area").

The Bylaw authorizes the SLRD to borrow funds of up to $1,000,000 over a 15 year term, for renovating, improving and expanding the SLRD-occupied second floor/administrative and storage portion of its longtime administrative building located at 1350 Aster St. in Pemberton, BC. Repayment of the loan is borne by taxable properties within the Service Area at tax requisition rates estimated as follows:

For District of Lillooet, Village of Pemberton, Resort Municipality of Whistler & District of Squamish:

  • $0.00352 per $1,000 of net taxable assessed value of land & improvements ($0.35 per $100,000).

For Electoral Areas A, B, C & D:

  • $0.00370 per $1,000 of net taxable assessed value of land & improvements ($0.37 per $100,000). Rate is higher because a provincial fee of 5.25% is added.

The SLRD Board is seeking participating area approval of electors for the Service Area. The number of eligible electors in the Service Area is 36,118. The deadline for elector responses for this Alternative Approval Process is 4:30 p.m. on July 18, 2017.

The SLRD Board may proceed with this Bylaw unless, by the deadline stated above, at least 10% (3,612) of the electors of the Service Area indicate that the SLRD Board must obtain the assent of the electors via referendum before proceeding.

Elector responses must be given in the form established by the SLRD Board, and elector response forms are available at the SLRD office (1350 Aster St., Pemberton, BC) and at www.slrd.bc.ca/AAPOfficeSpaceReno.

Public inspection of copies of the Bylaw can be made at the SLRD office (1350 Aster St., Pemberton, BC) from 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (Monday to Friday, except holidays) and at www.slrd.bc.ca/AAPOfficeSpaceReno.
