2026 information for voters in the SLRD

The Squamish-Lillooet Regional District (SLRD) is governed by an 11-member Board of Directors composed of four Electoral Area Directors (areas A, B, C and D) and seven Municipal Directors (District of Lillooet (1), Village of Pemberton (1), Resort Municipality of Whistler (2), District of Squamish (3)).
In a regional district, eligible rural residents vote in their respective electoral area. Find out more about the SLRD Electoral Areas.
In a General Local Election, an Electoral Area Director may be elected by acclamation (in the case of a single qualified candidate) or by voting (where there is more than one qualified candidate). Each Municipal Director on the SLRD Board is appointed by their Council from their elected members.
The SLRD is within the core traditional territories of the Líl̓wat, Sḵwx̱wú7mesh and St’át’imc Nations. Voters who are members of First Nations communities, including those living on reserve lands within the SLRD, are entitled to participate in the General Local Election when they meet provincial voter eligibility requirements.
Voters within the SLRD may also see candidate names for School District Board Trustees during a General Local Election on their ballot.

Voter eligibility
You are eligible to vote if you are a qualified Resident Elector or a qualified Non-Resident Property Elector and are required to present acceptable identification at the voting location.
How, where, and when to vote
The SLRD uses same-day voter registration, which means you cannot register in advance to vote. If you are eligible to vote, you register when you vote.
All eligible resident electors and non-resident property electors may choose the voting opportunity that best suits their needs:
Voter Accessibility
Voting by mail ballot is the most accessible and convenient way to participate in the 2026 Local General Election.
Completed mail ballot packages do not have to be returned through the postal system; there will be additional options such as courier, pick-up and drop-off to make the mail ballot process as convenient as possible for eligible voters.
SLRD voting locations are accessible and equipped to accommodate individuals with mobility challenges and those who use assistive devices.
Voters who need help during the voting process may have another person assist them. This support can include translation, mobility assistance, or help marking the ballot. Anyone who assists a voter will be required to complete a form at the voting place. If a voter does not have someone who can assist them, they may request assistance from an SLRD election official.
If you are unable to enter a voting place due to mobility challenges and choose not to vote by mail ballot, curbside voting is available at voting locations. Please note there is limited staff available to facilitate curbside voting and you may experience an extended wait upon arrival. If you plan to request curbside voting, we appreciate your patience and understanding as election staff work to assist all voters at the voting place.
