Canadian Wilderness Adventures (CWA) has submitted a rezoning application to cover their commercial recreation tenure on Crown land in the Callaghan Valley. CWA has been operating under Temporary Use Permits (TUPs), the latest of which is expiring soon. The applicant is seeking to move from TUPs to permanent zoning and incorporate their existing land uses into the zoning bylaw. The lands subject to the rezoning application are: DISTRICT LOTS 6013 AND 7925, TOGETHER WITH THAT PARCEL OR TRACT OF LAND IN THE VICINITY OF ALEXANDER FALLS, GROUP 1, NWD, CONTAINING 3,901 HA MORE OR LESS, EXCEPT THEREOUT ALL FOREST SERVICE ROADS AND ROADS PERMITTED UNDER THE FOREST AND RANGE PRACTICES ACT.
Current Status
The application has received permission to proceed to bylaw development from the SLRD Board at its February 17, 2016 meeting. The proposed Zoning Amendment Bylaw No. 1478-2016 received 1st reading from the SLRD Board at its June 22, 2016 meeting. The proposed Zoning Amendment Bylaw No. 1478-2016 has now received its 2nd reading from the Board meeting held on August 24th, 2016. A public hearing was held on Thursday October 6 at 7 pm at the Whistler Museum (4333 Main Street, Whistler, BC). Bylaw No. 1478-2016 was given 3rd reading and adopted at the SLRD Board meeting on October 26, 2016. Several conditions that must be met prior to issuance of Development Permits were included as conditions of adoption as outlined in the October 26, 2016 Board report and resolution.
