Electoral Area C, D’Arcy Water System Users - New drinking water disinfection system coming online

D’Arcy residents in Electoral Area C are advised that a new drinking water disinfection system serving N’Quatqua, which supplies drinking water to D’Arcy through a Water Supply Agreement, is expected to begin operation shortly.

This project represents a significant investment in the long-term safety and reliability of the drinking water supply. The new system will provide continuous disinfection of the water before it enters the distribution system, helping to improve overall water quality and provide an additional barrier against potential microbial contamination.

What residents may notice

These changes are expected and indicate that the disinfection process is working as intended.

  • A mild chlorine taste or odour in their drinking water
  • Temporary changes in the taste of coffee, tea, or other beverages prepared with tap water
  • Minor variations in chlorine levels as the system is adjusted and optimized during start-up

Is the water safe to drink?

Yes. The drinking water will continue to meet regulatory requirements and will remain safe for drinking, cooking, bathing, and other household uses. Chlorine is one of the most widely used and effective drinking water disinfectants in the world and is routinely used by communities throughout British Columbia and North America.

Why is this important?

Continuous disinfection provides an additional level of protection for the drinking water supply by helping to reduce the risk of microbial contamination and supporting the delivery of safe drinking water to residents. The project is expected to improve both water quality and overall system reliability.

Reducing chlorine taste or odour

Residents who are sensitive to chlorine taste or odour may find the following helpful:

  • Fill a pitcher with tap water and store it in the refrigerator
  • Allow water to stand for a short period before drinking
  • Use a charcoal filter, such as a point-of-use filter or filtered water pitcher.

Additional information about chlorinated drinking water is available on the HealthLinkBC Drinking Water Chlorination Facts page.
