The SLRD received a Temporary Use Permit (TUP) application proposing a temporary sales building on part of the Britannia Oceanfront Developments Corporations’ (BODC) land associated with the Britannia Beach development project for a term ending on December 31, 2019.  The land is subject to a current rezoning and OCP amendment application that would see the site redeveloped in order to allow for a retail/commercial project as well as 87 residential units.

There is currently an existing structure at the site (known as the old “Geochem building” that is proposed to be re-purposed and used as the proposed sales/“discovery” building.   Although the “Geochem building” has been in place for decades, it has not been used for many years and has thus lost its legally non-conforming status, hence the need for a temporary use permit.  The TUP would legitimize the use as the current zoning of the property under Squamish-Lillooet Regional District Electoral Area D Zoning Bylaw No. 1350-2016 does not allow for a sales building as a permitted land use.  The existing building is located at the corner of Highway 99 and Copper Drive.

TUP #60 was approved and issued at the May 23, 2018 SLRD Board meeting.
