Waiting on Tenure Amendment

Overview

The SLRD received a zoning amendment application from Whistler Sports Legacies Society for the addition of 11 tourist accommodation cabins (up to 50m2/539sq.ft. in size) at Whistler Olympic Park. The specific location proposed for the cabins is an under-utilized parking lot in close proximity to the Biathlon Stadium and existing services (power, water, sewerage). Staff are also proposing the addition of commercial filming as a permitted use, as the area has been used consistently for consecutive day filming projects for many years.

The proposed uses are supported under the Crown land tenure and Master Plan. The OCP Designation – Commercial – Whistler Olympic Park – includes policy that specifically states limited tourist accommodation in the form of a lodge, RV/tent camping or overnight cabins where directly auxiliary to an outdoor recreation use, sport training or event, may be considered by way of a rezoning. 

Status Update

An amendment to the Crown land tenure and Master Plan is required. The proponent is working through this process. The SLRD will consider first reading of the Zoning Amendment Bylaw once the proposed uses are supported under the Crown land tenure and Master Plan.
