These are the highlights from the Squamish-Lillooet Regional District Board and Committee meetings of
May/June 2016.
- The Electoral Area D Official Community Plan Amendment Bylaw No. 1433-2016, which updates the development permit areas, was adopted.
- The Electoral Area D Zoning Bylaw No. 1350-2016 received third reading and was send to the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure for referral; staff will further engage with Britannia Beach residents regarding zoning in that area.
- Amendment Bylaw No. 1478-2016 in respect of the Canadian Wilderness Adventures rezoning application (Area D) received first reading and was sent for referrals to various organizations and agencies.
- Staff will undertake public consultation in respect of Taicheng Development’s application for a proposed Area D Community Plan amendment.
- The Upper Bridge River Valley Official Community Plan Amendment Bylaw No. 1440-2016 and Zoning Amendment Bylaw No. 1441-2016, which provide for additional employee housing at the Tyax Lodge, were adopted.
- The SLRD will begin developing proposed amendments to Electoral Area C Zoning Bylaw No. 765-2002 and Official Community Plan Bylaw No. 689-1999 for consideration by the Board.
- Pemberton and District Recreation Service Fees and Charges Bylaw No. 1483-2016 was adopted and will be effective as of September 1, 2016.
- Temporary Use Permits No. 45 & No. 46 for parking and camping associated with the Pemberton Music Festival were approved.
- The SLRD submitted an application to the 2016 Canada 150 Community Infrastructure Program for the following projects: Nature Play Park at the Pemberton and District Community Centre and the Riverside Wetlands Trails Upgrades.
- The SLRD will submit an Expression of Interest to the Community Energy Leadership Program for the Solar Photovoltaic Renewable Energy Initiative for solar energy at the Britannia Beach and Furry Creek wastewater treatment plants.
- June 4, 2016 was proclaimed as “National Health and Fitness Day”.
- June 4, 2016 was proclaimed as “Access Awareness Day”.
- $1,000 of funding was provided to the Red Cross for the Fort McMurray wildfires.
- The following amounts were granted from the Pemberton Recreation Commission Fund:
- $112 to Pemberton Secondary School for the rental of DJ equipment for a school dance;
- $1,000 to the Pemberton Recreation Service to purchase multipurpose mats.
- $1,000 to the Pemberton Red Devils Alumni Association to help provide financial support to the athletic program at Pemberton Secondary School.
- $5,500 to the Pemberton and District Museum and Archives Society in 2017 to support the Museum’s successful application to the Canada 150 Grant Fund Program.
- $4,400 to Pemberton Recreation Service for the purchase of three new aluminum bleachers for the Pemberton Meadows Field.
- $2,000 to the Pemberton Secondary School Senior Girls Soccer Team for travel and accommodation to the Provincial Championships and new equipment.
- $112 to the Signal Hill Parent Advisory Committee for use of Recreation Service DJ equipment for the Father Daughter Dance.
- $5,000 to the Indigenous Leadership Academy for the Lil’wat Pit House Construction, subject to the Lil’wat Nation providing support and matching funding to the project.
- The following amounts were granted from Area A Select Funds:
- $500 to the Red Cross for the Fort McMurray, Alberta fires relief effort.
- $3,300 to the Bridge River Valley Community Association for kiosk panels.
- The following amounts were granted from Area B Select Funds:
- $500 to the St’at’imc Grad Committee towards a recognition ceremony.
- $8,000 to the Lillooet Agricultural Food Society to leverage a grant application to the Buy Local Program.
- The following amounts were granted from Area C Select Funds:
- $500 to Red Cross in for the Fort McMurray, Alberta fires relief effort;
- $3,500 to Western Canada Mountain Bike Tourism Association for the 2016 Sea to Sky Mountain Bike Visitor’s Study;
- $200 to the Red Devils Pemberton Alumni Association for Pemberton Secondary School sports teams.
- $2,000 to the Bridge River Indian Band to assist with the cost of operating the Bridge River-Lillooet Link Bus.
- The following amounts were granted from Area D Select Funds:
- $500 to Red Cross for the Fort McMurray, Alberta fires relief effort;
- $2,500 to the Furry Creek Community Association towards a trail improvement plan.
- Up to $10,000 to the Britannia Beach Mine Museum for their solar project.
- $600 to the Furry Creek Community Association to repair a pathway on the Furry Creek Spit.
